All About Manas National Park
Manas National Park is located in the Himalayan foothills in the northeast of India. The name “Manas National Park” has been derived from the Manas River which is a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River. The mighty Brahmaputra passes through the heart of the Manas National Park. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary on 1st October 1928 with an area under 360 square kilometers. It was established Manas Biosphere Reserve in 1973. Before it was declared as a sanctuary it was a reserved forest called Manas Reserved Forest and North Kamrup Reserved Forest. Manas is one of the nine tiger reserve sanctuaries in India. Other wildlife species found in the national park are Hispid Hare, Pigmy Hog, Golden Langur, Indian Rhinoceros, Asiatic Buffalo, etc. Other commonly seen animals are Elephant, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Himalayan Bear, Wild Boar, Samber, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, etc.
